Hi all, just a note that I have not dropped my blogging, but I have taken on a new role leading a global manufacturing and engineering team of a mid size business with over 1000 people reporting into me.
This is not without its challenges, there are issues out of my control but which are creating extreme tensions, such as below budget revenue, quality concerns, delivery backlogs, and cultural challenges.
Add to this the global macro economic position, and falling share prices, its not a happy place.
I am, reverting to type, as they say, and enforcing particular lean thinking and tools, such as tiered accountability and structured problem solving, to try to reduce to noise to signal ratio driving the decision making. I am also driving hard to ensure my team feel fully respected and enabled by utilizing these tools myself in how I lead and problem solving.
I am, however in a maelstrom of problems, working long hours and spending at least 50% of my time away from home, this leads to my priorities shifting, and this is full transparency here, meaning that my blogging has taken a back seat in the journey of my life right now. Although, not completely stepped out, this, by necessity has dropped down the priority order, so here is my humble apology to you, with a commitment to blog when I am sat at airports etc (as I am now) and to bring back the structure again as I gradually gain control of the issues I face in my work.
Feel free to comment any advise you might have to balance this with a very busy work life, I am determined to resolve the issues manufacturing and engineering face. Just today I managed to support the business by preventing a poor decision through the use of good data and an A3. Just goes to show that even in the toughest of times, lean, works.
